The plain-English version of the agreement between you and Oil Portrait Painter when you place a commission.

Last updated: 7 May 2026

1. Who we are

“We,” “us,” or “Oil Portrait Painter” (or “OPP”) refers to the operator of oilportraitpainter.com. “You” refers to the customer placing a commission. By placing an order with us you agree to these terms.

2. Placing an order

Your order is accepted when we send a confirmation email after successful payment. Until then, we may decline an order at our discretion (rare — typically only if the reference photo is unsuitable or the requested subject matter falls outside what we paint).

3. Pricing & payment

Prices are listed on the commission page in US dollars (USD) and are charged via Stripe at the time of order. Once payment is taken, we begin work immediately. We do not store your card details — Stripe does, securely.

If we have offered you a one-time second-portrait offer at 50% off following your first order, that offer is valid only while you remain on the post-payment page; it cannot be claimed afterwards.

4. Production & revisions

Typical production takes 4 weeks (Level 1 — Good), 5 weeks (Level 2 — Better), or 6 weeks (Level 3 — Best) from the day your photo is approved. VIP express shaves up to two weeks off these timelines.

You will see the painting at multiple stages and may request changes. We accept and act on revisions until you give final approval. Once you approve the finished painting, we ship.

5. Shipping & risk

Free worldwide shipping is included in every commission. Paintings ship signed-for and fully insured. Risk of loss passes to you only on signature for delivery; if your painting is lost in transit before then, we will paint and ship a replacement at no charge.

6. Returns & refunds

Our 100% money-back guarantee gives you 30 days from receipt to request a full refund if the finished painting does not meet your expectations. See our guarantee for full details.

Because every painting is custom-made for you, we cannot offer refunds outside the 30-day window or once the painting has been damaged in your possession.

7. Intellectual property

You retain copyright in any reference photographs you supply. By submitting them you grant us a non-exclusive licence to use those photographs solely for the purpose of fulfilling your commission. We retain the right to display photographs of finished paintings (without identifying you) in our gallery and marketing, unless you ask us not to.

8. Acceptable subject matter

We paint people, families, pets and meaningful places. We will decline commissions involving copyrighted characters, recognisable celebrities without permission, or any subject matter that is hateful, sexually explicit or unlawful.

9. Limitation of liability

Our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to a commission is limited to the amount you paid for that commission. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales, although nothing in this clause prevents you from bringing a claim in your local consumer-protection forum where applicable law gives you that right.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your commission is the version published on the date you placed your order.
